I just wrote a thematic unit for Japan, but sixth grade level. One book that you could use would be "CrowBoy" by Taro Yshima. One of the activities I have in my unit that could be used for 3rd is taking your students to a sushi restaurant. ( Watch out for fish allergie!) I will have each student write a letter to the restaurant thanking them for sharing a feature of their culture. Hope this helps. I have more..if your interested. Lynne
