There is abook about a girl and here paper cranes. She is unwell and in this book which I think is set out like a diary she aims at making 1000 paper cranes befor she dies. She isn't successful, but the school and community help and finish them on her behalf.

My teacher read this to me when I was at school. (1983)

We decorated paper and made the cranes and decorated our room.
We kept our own journals.
We made newspaper articles about the event.
We then learnt more origami and other things about the culture of japan.
We also did a bit of cooking and had a costume day coming in our version of Kimonos etc
