Wow, it is hard to believe that some districts still have 1/2 day K! With all the working parents out there, how do they handle child care? You would think most people would want full day K. It is much cheaper than daycare.;)
My friends and I talk about how different it is now than when we were in Kindergarten and it was only 1/2 day. We only learned about the "Letter People" (anyone remember them?) and to count to 20. We mostly played and colored. Now the kids learn to read, count and write to 100, and do basic addition! My daughter is in K and they even have sight words! She brings home books to read and has homework! Kindergarten today is like 1st grade of the past. The kids seem more prepared to read in 1st grade after having already learned many words and sounds in K. I think it is a great thing.
