    Hello!

My son has dyslexia. I have attended a lot of conferences and seminars discussing dyslexia, and I highly recommend the following website for information you may want to pass on to the mother. Testing is discussed on the site:

As far as who should test, I recommend calling your local or state chapter of the International Dyslexia Association and asking for references. A doctor DOES NOT have to test for dyslexia, and I live in the 4th largest city in the country, and there is only one doctor in the entire city whom I know of who does test for dyslexia. Still, I would go to someone who specializes in testing for dyslexia, and the International Dyslexia Association can give you some names of people who do. The Scottish Rite is known for having an excellent dyslexia intervention program, so that organization may be a good source for references, as well. Some Scottish Rite hospitals test, but there often is a long waiting list. Finally, you can go to wrightslaw.com and check out the Yellow Pages for Children with Disabilities. Resources, support groups, and evaluators are listed by state.

    Good luck!
