I started out with a chart and a partial sentence with my kids. The effect chart began: "The ball bounced, and..." The kids filled in an effect. My cause chart ended with "...and we were so tired." The kids filled in a cause. They loved it. There are so many books that illustrate c/e and it's fine to use the "lower level" books with 4th to help. Good luck.:s)
