If You Give A Mouse A Cookie By Mr. K

Use one of the IF You... books as a cause effect model and hen have students write their own book. After I share these books with my fifth graders and model an example, they work in pairs to write a 10-12 step circle (cause/effect) story. After editing and revising, the turn their sample into a book, with one idea and picture per page. they enjoy this activity and they are usually able to see the cause/effect relationship in other examples.
