I could have had your positive comments at the board meeting last night!

Our kindergarten teachers are THRILLED...they have to cram so much into 2.5 hours, and they've lost the "fun" of kindergarten. They won't be
expected to teach ANYTHING more, just with more time to do it.

Parents were either very for or very against it.

I teach second, so this doesn't effect me (other than job security--they have to hire 3 teachers!), but I'm all for it!

Our program will be a full day curriculum based program, so they'll do language arts, math, and science daily. They'll have specials

(art, music, library, and gym) but this has yet to be worked out.

Governor Rendell (PA) is offering about $50,000 in grant money for districts who are using full day programs, and basically the board realized they can't pass up "free money." The district will also save $90,000 a year in bussing because coming/going midday creates a transportation nightmare!
