    student burnout

After teaching upper primary for many years, I am facing a new problem and would appreciate input. I have several students who are totally unmotivated. They do not seem to have any motivation to do any sort of quality work. It takes constant prompting to get something turned in. These students are bright and capable, but just don't seem to care. I have tried every positive reward and negative consequence in my bag of tricks. They get a great deal of 1:1 help and I have modified assignments. I have kept in constant contact with the parents all year with no consistent change. They have seen the school counselor and been referred for testing. They are getting further behind and we are all frustrated. I refuse to give up on them, but would really like some suggestions to try during this last quarter of school.
