    WOW...I agree this is a hard one...
    while I have covered parts of a sentence it is hard to explain to 6 year olds...
    I try to have them use common sense...
    For example...if someone wrote
    ride a bike...
    I say would it make sense if I walked up to you and said "ride a bike"
    they say no...I bring it back to oral communication...bc that is stronger for them usually...
    I also reinforce that and NEVER starts a sentence and is only used once in one this illiminates the I went to the park and I rode my bike and I played ball and I ....
    you get the point. I also explain the point of punctuation to allow your reader to understand.
    I ask them to analyze what the complete thought is and then to stop (period, question mark exclamation...) and then start a new sentence.
    It is hard...I have no easy answer...I am too a first year so I look forward to more feedback but this is what I do...
