On mornings when I have a couple extra minutes, I pick through my library and find some books that I want to get circulating again. I put them on student's desks that I think would like them, along with a note saying something like, "I know how much you love cats, and this is a funny one about them! I think it would be just right for you." I think showing the kids that you know them in this way goes a long way in creating a bond.
