Sometimes children can surprise you! It is amazing what they can write if the skill is modeled well. What poem would you be using and maybe if you could let us know a couple of examples of the metaphors and pattern they would follow, we could tell you more clearly if it seems to advanced. Good luck! I'm sure their poems will be precious keepsakes.
