Fellow teachers, I am truly inspired. I just came from the new movie Freedom Writers and wow! I teach in a similar school, though my students are in middle school. I saw some of me in the lead character and a lot of my
students in those kids. The movie came out at a time in my own job where I will be changing programs mid-year (for the second time) to help one of the most troubled 7th grade English classes in my building. I was originally shocked by the second mid-year change I had to endure this year. My new class is an inclusion class, and has lost both of their English teachers recently. One was

asked to leave and the other had some major stress-related illness and opted to take a medical leave. Since then, these students have had no solid English teacher since November 1st. I was losing hope on how I was going to help these students regain their structure and confidence. Does anyone think it is weird, that I got my hope back from this movie? I want to go see if I can find the published book and read some of it. I truly think some of it would make a great read aloud...I'd have to of course read it first to see.
