Spelling in K

I don't give tests but we practice spelling word families, i.e. mat, hat, bat, sat etc. I say the word, we work out the spelling together by identifying the sounds, they write it on their individual papers and finally I have someone come to the board to write it and everyone checks their paper to make sure it is correct. It's good phonetic practice and makes the transition to actual spelling tests a little easier.
