I read it to my 5th graders because it was a book I loved in elementary. It is a good book and held their attention, but it might be a little much for 3rd grade. The chapters are kind of long if I remember correctly, and it is a pretty long book. There is a part where the monkeys get drunk too so that part concerned me a little, but I liked it.
