    There's a big difference between graciously accepting personal items someone might give you as a gift and sending out a letter asking for them. I don't care WHERE you are, you should never give someone an unsoliticited wish list of personal items for yourself. The fact that a teacher did this was really pretty shameful IMO.

    I would probably be the parent taking this letter straight to the principal. When I received a letter from the person delivering my paper asking for tips, I told the paper. This is even worse because it's from someone we are holding up to our kids as a role model.

    Like others, I have no problem with a teacher having a classroom wish list - but this is just shocking.
