ALL the genres in one lesson?

I don't know how it would be possible to teach ALL the genres in just one lesson. I realize you said you don't have time to read books from the different genres, but what has worked for me is to continually refer to the key points of a given genre each time we are reading something from that genre.

I don't have a lesson plan for you but maybe you will be able to use the printables from the site below. It has some great 'kid friendly' posters that give a definition for the various genres. I printed them out and keep them posted all year for easy reference. Scroll down a bit and look for the reading genres. I think they open up as colorful PDF documents. (I copied and pasted the genres here, but I'm not sure if they will directly open up the pdf files.)

Good luck with your lesson! If you find something that's workable, I'd be interested in knowing how it turns out!
