Homework collection/ Mailbox
By Karen

Clip to ScrapBook
This year I am planning a new method for collecting homework. I assign homework each night with a weekly reading log going home each Wednesday. On Thursday mornings we discuss our logs and how many minutes we've read etc
and favorite books etc. We do a lot of motivational activities with this information and discussion. My students also have agenda books to write in their daily homework assignment. It is enclosed in a binder with a laminated 2 pocket folder. One side labeled "return to School" and the other Keep at Home! They also have a page protector sheet to keep current spelling lists etc. Each afternoon
before dismissal we organize our stuff! To encourage better homework results I am utilizing an idea I got from Creative Classroom Magazine,Aug 2001. I created an 8X8 grid similar to a bingo card. I assigned letters A to H on columns and 1 to 8 on rows. If all work is completed, my students place their name on a square on the grid. Letters and numbers are placed in 2 different containers. I choose a letter and number from the cans. The winner such as C7 picks a prize from treasure box!
For distributing corrected work or notices etc, my students have a mail center. Each slot has their name by alphabetical order as well as an assigned number. This makes it easier for distribution, asI have them write their number on the upper right hand corner of their papers.
