Try to keep them busy & plan ahead. I have my teaching assistant do things like.....
-cut out/staple materials for instruction
-work with small groups
-publish student work & help with binding books
-file
*I have a box that I place jobs in. I usually put instructions on a post-it describing what I would like her to do.
