pros and cons
By Jalon

Clip to ScrapBook
I see both sides. As a new teacher, I'm already seeing that there are those who will always get it done, and then you'll have those you can almost bet will not have it.

We have a team rotation, so I teach Science/Soc.
Studies to my class and other class, and I bet there are 3-4 in each class of 24 that I just know will not have their homework. And, I can't honestly say that homework improves their grades, but it does give them practice and reinforcement of concepts we learn. Fortunately, I lean toward the side of "little homework". Our Science is so hands-on and inquiry based that they have
very little Science homework. Soc. Studies may consist of a review sheet or two to complete each week.

Still, it is a pain to have to get that work out of students, if at all. I teach 4th and I've tried to show them how a zero can drastically change a grade, but for some it doesn't matter and it doesn't seem that consequences even phase them.

Wish I had some good suggestions for you, but I can say that I understand your frustration!
