Although I teach 2nd and it's the other way around for me. They start off being really forgetful w/ their assignments and then once they get into routines, experience the consequences of constantly tardy homework, and discover the random surprises that sometimes come w/ doing homework on a regular basis, it becomes less and less of a problem.
