For first grade, I photocopied designs that looked like stained glass - already had thick black outlines. I found them in a coloring book. The kids colored them in with regular markers, then used a paintbrush with a SMALL amount of cooking oil. That soaked in and made the paper quite transparent, and it looked like stained glass. We hung them in the window, and sent them home for Christmas. Too much oil makes a smear on the display window that is messy to remove, so use as little as possible.
