5. could your PTO/PTA fund some of these labs? (i realize that many of you are not as fortunate as i am to be able to do #'s 4 and 5--i've heard your stories--but, you also never know until you try.) 6. could you get donations from stores? (most places like to donate to schools--or at least give a teacher's discount) i recently picked up several paint sticks from Walmart for a puppet show/book report project--i plan to take pictures of the final result and send a thank you letter. 7. as mentioned above, if you buy it, write it off. 8. perhaps your district's science coordinator will reimburse you (or help you find the materials). one year i went to a conference and was blown away by a math videodisc presentation (yes, a year or two before DVD's--dang!) and i asked our math supervisor to buy me one--it was $300!--of course, it helped that i had done some work with the supervisor and he knew me--but he bought it! 9. ask parents to send in the materials--when i mention that some parents can't afford (or something to that effect), and suggest that if they can, send extra, a few parents do. ***careful when asking for money--check with secretary/principal--in our district they have been very gidgy about receipts and having accounts to show where the money went.*** (no gidgy is not really a word, but i couldn't come up with the one i wanted, so....) hopefully something in there will help you out!
