but ask for the stuff, not the money and you get a better response.

Maybe have a parent coordinate so you don't get lots of duplicates and you get all that you need. We have great success in having parents donate a "something" when we explain EXACTLY what and EXACTLY why.

I don't know if that actually helps... :) Good luck!

Also -- businesses love to help out. IF you don't have luck with the families, perhaps local businesses (especially smaller ones, or the huge chains with community outreach budgets) can fill the gaps.
