the scores from last year's state test to help you. I find that score is a little more accurate than the test our district gives.

How many kids do you have? If you're in elementary and have only 20-30 kids or so, you should be able to level them by now, just because you know them pretty well. If you're in a middle school like I am, and have 100, you'll need something. Consider just having two groups right now, in that case, high and low. Then as you work with the kids, break them out, for the next book, into four. That should cover all your levels.

Consider using novel sets instead of a program, too.

Good for you for wanting to supplement the basal!
