Use the playground
By GB

Clip to ScrapBook
In class have them map the playground on bigger paper, in their team that they will be working with. After their hunt, develop schema by mapping it again with anything they missed on their original map. Either add to or
draw a new map. Talk about what they had to add.

Use the playground and "plant" some items or do/include a nature or other curriculum theme (shapes? rectangle-school building windows). Give each group a list and a time limit and let them search for everything they can find on their list. Keep their list general based on what is available in the area. Think about the flagpole,
playground equipment, school building, and other environment--can they find a bird's nest in a tree for instance?

They have to keep their finds quiet so other teams won't just follow them around, too.

You could do a challenge find with clues only for those who might get done early and hide a couple of objects to support it. You could do something with your treasure chest, but each group have to find a certain one... Hopefully this is a springboard for some ideas. Good luck.
