Managing Teacher Homework
By CageyBee

Clip to ScrapBook
I now teach sixth grade so I get overwhelmed with the amount of teacher homework as well. What I try to do is use part of my lunch to go to my room and grade some. I also stay after school for about 30 minutes just to get
a jump on it. I try to grade as work is handed in so I don't have stacks waiting to be done all at once.

I also bought fancy colored/textured pens and allow my students to grade their own paper in class for homework or a practice sheet. They are only allowed to use pencils so the pen idea alerts me to corrections and gives them immediate feedback as to their errors. I only
assign homework that has to do with what we are working on that week so the correction times become mini lessons on that skill/topic...and written homework is not every night.

When my children were little, I only did school work AFTER we had dinner, helped with their homework, and had some family time. Once my children were in bed, I started my work. Sometimes I did it in front of the TV so that my hubby and I could see each other (he taught as well) and sometimes I sat in the kitchen and did a power session with no distractions except a steaming cup of tea.

Just recently, I joined quia.com since I can assign some lesson practice that doesn't include me grading. The quiz section allows students to go into the site, use the password to do the lesson/test and the site grades it and sends me the results. Worth the money!:p
