misunderstanding
By Nessa

Clip to ScrapBook
Last year I was doing a read aloud and the book had the word "knickers" (as in underwear). Some of my students looked at me funny, but I kept reading not knowing what their strange looks were for. Finally one of my brave little girls raises her hand and asks why I keep saying n***er (derogitory word for African Americans)? My face turned a hundred shades of red. My northern accent and their southern ears could have created a problem if my student hadn't asked! I quickly explained the word I was using, and reaffirmed that the other word was NOT a word we use in my classroom.
