poem of the week
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi!...I also do a poem of the week with my second grade class...I post the poem on a back bulletin board every week...and lay a copy of the poem on their desks before they come in Monday morning...we spend the most time on
it then...going over it together...discussing it...looking for patterns...defining any unknown words...that sort of thing...then every morning for the rest of the week and sometimes right before dismissal...we read it aloud...towards the end of the week they usually have it down really well...i have the helper of the day be my poem reminder...because it is very easy to forget to do it...on
Friday...I have groups of 3 or 4 stand up and recite the poem from memory...i give the students that have it memorized a treat...which i try to make fit the theme of the poem...but it's not always possible...two of my favorite websites to find poems are www.track0.com/canteach/elementary.songspoems.html
and www.angelfire.com/ma/1stgrade/page2.html

I hope this is helpful!
Debbie
