    Catholic Vs. Public

I love teaching in Catholic school. I make less than I would in a Long Island public school but I find the atmosphere much nicer. Most of my students have lovely manners and seem to stay children longer than the kids in public school. They still play with dolls in the third and fourth grade and still watch kids' TV shows. THey aren't trying to emulate Brittany Spears. Before I got my job in Catholic school I was a permanent sub in a LI district. The kids were rude, they threw furniture at teachers, cursed, were 8 going on 40 and were generally ill mannered. My kids in Catholic school genuinely care about each other and about those less fortunate than themselves. They are for the most part a pleasure to teach. The downside is that we get lots of kids from the public schools whose parents think that Catholic school will "straighten out" their kids' problems. So we get kids whose parents wouldn't accept the public school's assessment of their child's behavioral or special needs. Think about it, pray about it and hopefully you will come to the decision that is right for your family.
