I have each student fill out a report for me when I fill one out for them. It's amazing how their feedback can really help you become a better teacher. The best feedback I ever had was from a little girl who said it was very distracting for her when I write on the overhead and wear my "heart bracelet". Why? Because it "clinked around" too much and she would get distracted by the "clinking". Who would have thought? To this day, that is something I think about each time I use the overhead. It was a simple bit of feedback that helped me be more aware of my students' needs. I respect their feedback because the kids are so simple and HONEST! I think it really helps them to understand that what they feel IS important. I usually ask basic things like:
What is one thing I do well as a teacher?
What is one or two things I need to improve?
I explain the grading system and give scenarios of how I come up with grades. As for the parents, they seem to let me know about the areas they would like me to improve in. My true teachers are my students!
