First Day Activities
By Kathryn

Clip to ScrapBook
The first day I usually spend a good deal of time on "Getting to Know You" activities. I read The Teacher from the Black Lagoon and then I introduce myself by having a box of items that tell about me. I also play Getting
to Know You Bingo. I write the students' names on a bingo grid from my class list and then we play Bingo. Each time I read out a name that person has to answer a Getting to Know you question such as...." What is your favorite color?"
The first day is also a day when we review procedures and classroom rules. We tour the school and have a practice fire drill.
I usually
have them write their numbers from 1-100 on a grid so that I can see what their numbers are like (if they reverse numbers) I also have them decorate a helper tag.
