Also if you wanted to use more positive reinforcement, my cooperating teacher when I student taught used tickets. Students got tickets for doing good deeds (helping, cleaning, extra work,) as well as for completing each homework assignment. When they made a mistake such as forgot a sheet of homework, talked in class, etc, she would take a ticket or two(depending on severity). If a child had a ticket, all was forgotten. If a child had no tickets, they missed free play, etc., as with the cards. When children earned so many tickets, they could cash them in on different rewards. You could make up your own value chart but I can remember that students could cash in 50 tickets to eat lunch in the classroom and at 100 tickets the teacher would buy you dinner at any place the student wanted. She said that she had never had to buy anyone dinner before because they would get tired of saving their tickets and cash them in before they got to a 100. Hope all this helps a little. KimW
