"First Days of School"
By Nichole

Clip to ScrapBook
We always have a "Meet Your Teacher Day" before school starts, and I always do this activity, but you could do it any time. Before school starts, I cover a large bulletin board with black paper. Then on top of the black
paper, cut and arrange large pieces of construction paper (the 11 X 18 size) into a large rectangle puzzle. Each piece of construction paper is one piece of the puzzle. While the students are at Meet the Teacher, they choose a puzzle piece to take home and decorate with their name and items that represent them. I ask them to be creative when they decorate the piece: useing three dimensional
items, pictures, paper, whatever. I even had a fishing bobber once! When the kids come back on the first day of school, we sit together in a circle, and the students share their puzzle piece. Then we try to put the puzzle back together again. It's a great way to get to know the kids and it's an attractive bulletin board to start off the year!
