Many districts have written into their contracts an hourly rate, and a rate for "class coverage". The latter is used when a sub isn't available, and a regular teacher has to cover another class on his/her prep, lunch, or other "free" period. Also, this rate is used if teachers at the middle or high school level teach an extra class every day (beyond what is written in the contract). If this info is not listed in your contract, I would check with your union rep, if you have one. Hope that helps!
