    Your local library or book store. If you have a 'local' bookstore rather than one like Barnes and Noble I think they would have more suggestions.

    They can hook you up with a local author if one of the nationally known authors are too expensive.

    We had a local author come this past year and it was great. He talked to the kids about writing, and developing good characters.

    Since he isn't a big and famous author, you can talk to older students about how ANYONE can be an author.

    NOW, our school is big Kevin Franz fans, and I know most kids around the country never even heard of him.:p
