    Share job, too

Hi. I, too, share a 3rd grade classroom. I teach language arts and math. The other teacher (who is also the principal) teaches everything else. We have shared a classroom for two years and will share again this year. At first I was hesitant about sharing a room as I had my own classroom for 5 years before that. We do well as a team, but we are both very organized and structured in our teaching techniques. My advice to you is to try to get to know the other teacher well. What kinds of things does he/she do in the classroom? What things can you do that are similar? Different? Make sure to be yourself and enjoy the room as though it was all yours, but yet try to respect the other teachers wishes as well. We try to keep the classroom very simple as far as decorations and things on the wall. We hang up mostly things that the students have completed and not a lot of things like posters, etc. She is responsible for her subjects and leaves me to do pretty much whatever I feel and I try not to interfere with her things. Sometimes, though, if we know what each other is teaching we can collaborater some activities. I hope you enjoy the year! Teaching in a job share should ease your work load as there is only half the work to do. :)
