I love bare books as there are so many things you can do with them. One of my favorite projects was keeping a monthly journal of what occured in our classroom. Towards the end of each month, I would give my students a list of prompting questions such as: What did we learn this month? What did you enjoy the most this month? What was your classroom job this month? (I also did Flat Stanley so one of my questions was, Where did Flat Stanley go this month?) Then I had the students write a rough draft of their month and once we checked it they published it into their bare book. Depending on how long their writing was they were able to add a picture to go along with their writing for that month (of course always using colored pencils as crayons and markers have a tendency to run or smear or even cause the pages to stick together :) I used the extra pages for special events throughout the year-- such as field trips, the end of the year picnic, etc. It was a great memory for the students to take with them at the end of the year.

    Hope this helps!
