rewarding year

It will get better and this is when we can wear the badge "Teacher" with pride. These students need you so much and you can make the hugest difference in their life. I have had very weak students before. The hardest part is that you have others who are on grade level too. I would just give various assessments to find out what you are dealing with and go from there. I would have small groups for writing and reading and just work from where they are. I think if you can find the weak links, you can move faster later.
The good news is that this will be the most rewarding year of your life. You will see the biggest progress with these children. Good luck!
