Spelling Homework
By Emily

Clip to ScrapBook
Even though I'm not a teacher - I'm a parent. My daughter's first grade teacher gave us many good ideas to make spelling fun.

1. Use navy beans or any dry food to spell out words.

2. I came up with, "Who Wants to
be a Spellionnaire" which is sorta hard but just take a piece of paper and spell out the words in different ways and have the child choose the correct way. Offer a prize for each word answered and for challenging words give a bigger prize. Each parent knows what motivates their child so the prizes should be tailored to the child. My daughter loves stickers and books so those would be
good motivators or a trip to library.

3. Have the kids create a poem or song with the words.

I'm sorry but maybe that's not challenging enough but I would also rather it be fun for the kids too.
