Spelling Homework By Emily

Even though I'm not a teacher - I'm a parent. My daughter's first grade teacher gave us many good ideas to make spelling fun. 1. Use navy beans or any dry food to spell out words. 2. I came up with, "Who Wants to | be a Spellionnaire" which is sorta hard but just take a piece of paper and spell out the words in different ways and have the child choose the correct way. Offer a prize for each word answered and for challenging words give a bigger prize. Each parent knows what motivates their child so the prizes should be tailored to the child. My daughter loves stickers and books so those would be | | good motivators or a trip to library. 3. Have the kids create a poem or song with the words. I'm sorry but maybe that's not challenging enough but I would also rather it be fun for the kids too.
