I also find the "daily calendar activites" very tedious to complete each day (especially at this level and with support and enthusiasm!). The children love to be the "calendar helper" and last year I had 3 calendar helpers each day. (First time in 20 years!) I divided up the jobs and would call their name by index card. They really loved the ROUTINE. Most importantly, I increased the activities as the months rolled by and was sure to include certain rote activities such as doubles, doubles plus one, money, time, word families, multiplication, subtraction, addition facts, short/long vowel sounds. Anything that we are studying or need review in. While I was working on the morning calendar activities, my assistant would pull some of the children for phonics or math review in small group activities. I hope this helps!
