Even though I have taught forever, I also struggle to get in enough writing and ss/sci. Anyway, here's my schedule:

7:45-8:00 Arrival, unpack, breakfast, sharpen pencils, etc.
8:00-9:00 Math--about 15-20 minutes spent on TARGET (like
Mountain Math), ADD math then the math lesson followed by
independent practice. At the beginning of the year I always
run over into reading time by at least 15 minutes.
9:00-10:00 Reading--varies from day to day-basal, guided reading, AR
10:00-10:20 Recess--this is also tutorial time for those who need it.
Two teachers go out w/ 4 classes, 2 teachers stay in and tutor
10:20-11:20 Language Arts--This is when I do grammar, writing, and
handwriting if I can get it in.
    11:20-11:50 Lunch
11:55-12:25 Spelling ( I have a restroom break between lunch and the
    start of class)
12:25-1:25 ?? This has been my ss/sci. block, but this year we are going
to incorporate them into language arts, so this will probably be
more reading time--nonfiction stuff on ss/sci topics. May also
be catch-up time for morning subjects.
1:25-2:15 Conference/planning period.. The kids have pe/music daily.
    2:15-3:10 DEAR time--silent reading
    3:10 Car rider dismissal
    3:20 Bus rider dismissal
