    I'm doing it too!

So that the kids do not always do the same activity, I would do this:
On the I Can list, I have a sticker that means that they MUST do this activity first before chosing another item from the list. I simply move the sticker down the list so that they do all the most important activites that I want them to do.
I got a lot of ideas on what to put on the list from the book itself. The activities do not have to change that often. It takes too much time to constantly teach the kids new activities.
No, I do not grade the center activites. That would take too much time. Instead, I give the kids an overall grade for center time-an easy A for most. If I notice that a group is playing around, I tell them that I expect the finished product to be turned in and I DO grade it or I give them a warning that they will be sent back to their seats during rotation time-and I make sure that it lasts so that they do not get thier favorite rotation, such as the computer or drama station, which seem to be the favorites.
I don't know if you are aware, but there's a book study on this book on this website. You can check it out by going to the Reader's Club, then clicking on the Violet Room. GOod Luck!
