also new and overwhelmed
By Jalon

Clip to ScrapBook
I spent 3 days this past week working in my room about 5-6 hours a day, which is basically until I started glazing over and couldn't think! Then we finished the week with two full days of workshops on new stuff we're implementing.
Yesterday afternoon when I got home, I was on brain overload and literally just broke down and bawled. I knew this would happen at some point as I was getting my first classroom ready, just not when! I was just wiped out last night.

Thankfully, other teachers (and my husband) are telling me my room is looking pretty good. I also have the first two days (a Thurs/Fri)
completely planned, including lots of time for practicing procedures and get-to-know activities. My textbooks and teacher manuals will probably be put in my room this week. These all had to be ordered and I understand everything that has been delivered for our building is in one huge room and will start being distributed next week.

Our copier at school has been down, so hopefully next week I can get some copies made for at least the first week, maybe two.

Although I finished the year for a split class last year (Jan-May), this is my first start of a new year, so I hope I'm on track. I am trying to ask a lot of questions of my fellow teachers, whom I've seen at workshops and around the building, to make sure I get the basic ready, at least.

Everything will be new and the first time...first time starting out the Soc. Studies unit, first time using the new Reading materials, first time using the Science kit (we still have to have kit training), first time taking the kids to lunch, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like my first year will be more like feeling my way?? Thank goodness for an awesome team teacher and I know I'll have a mentor teacher too.

I'm trying to hard to do other things that are fun and to just hang out and relax as much as possible when I'm not at school or running errands to pick up notebooks or supplies. It's hard to not keep thinking about it, though. Brain breaks are necessary!

Sparklin, there are lots of us in the same boat and like others said...we don't have to be perfect or have it all done! Thanks to everyone who responded and confirmed that all our "newbie nerves" are normal and that we'll survive!! :s)
