Letter Sounds
By Kim

Clip to ScrapBook
Discovery Toys has a great CD "Sounds Like Fun". It includes a very simple song "Alphabet Sounds" that goes through the basic consonant sounds and short vowels. For example, the line for "b" is "baby, baby, buh, buh, buh". The song comes with a little chart the child can use to sing along--it shows two pictures of babies and then three letter "B"s. I have used it very successfully with 1-3 grade ESL students as well as native English speaking first graders. Plus my 18 month old niece loves to sing the song and even follows along with the chart. When my students are journal writing with invented spelling or in guided reading groups, I remind them of the song.
