Using the overhead
By Carole

Clip to ScrapBook
I use the overhead for my penmanship lessons. I made a transparency of the penmanship paper and use a thematic riddle book I purchased from Scholastic. We start with color riddles. I do one letter at a time in the beginning of the year, stressing the letter formation. The riddles are fairly short so it takes about 20 minutes a day. After a few weeks I pull phonics into it. I also have the children guess what the word could be and what the answer of the riddle could be. I have done this for 2 years now and find my kids enjoy it. It helps the reluctant kids keep up and everyone's penmanship improves. Starting at mid-year I pick one child a week, who's penmanship is beautiful, to write the riddle for the rest of the class on the overhead. What a motivator!
