Morning work
By teacher2

Clip to ScrapBook
A couple of years ago, I started having a writing prompt on the board most mornings for students to work on as they arrive and put their things away. I call this a journal, but I do not grade it for grammar, spelling, etc. I basically use it as a warm up for the day, and it really seems to help get the juices flowing. Once a week I have my students work on a jumpstart page, which they enjoy also. As the year goes on I may add an additional jumpstart page, or a different activity that serves the same purpose.
I do find that my young students are much more ready to learn in the morning hours than in the afternoon, so I try to get in as much reading, language arts, and math as possible before lunch.:s)
