    morning

I greet them at the door, then they do the following:

    1. unpack
    2. sharpen pencils
    3. begin morning work on board (either journal, handwriting, or math sheet)
    4. SSR

Joy - I don't have any trouble with the kids staying quiet during reading time. It's a rule and the kids really don't have any trouble with it. I give one warning (I usually say, "What are you supposed to be doing right now?"), and that usually does the trick. :)

Oh - and I allow 2 kids to read in my reading corner every morning - they love that! They look for their number every morning (I go in numerical order).
