Do you have any access to materials?

Turtle shells, fur, or anything like that? I'm guessing you must if it has to be a hands on lesson covering that aspect of animals. You could do a KWL chart. List what they know about those materials, let them do some observations with a magnifying glass maybe emphasizing the five (or actually four since you wouldn't want any tasting) senses) and then list what they learned on the other side. Or you could do predictions maybe? Like list what they predict the fur would feel like and then discuss whether it felt just like they thought it would?
