I don't think it really matters which letters you teach first. Many teachers begin with A and go from there. This year, I am teaching using the Multisensory teaching and spelling method of Language enrichment. I began with the letter i, and then went to t. I believe my next letter will be p. As long as you give sounds and teach the correct formation of the letters you'll be fine.
