When I looked up the word “educate” in the dictionary, one of the definitions was: to develop mentally, morally, or aesthetically especially by instruction. I believe
I believe that I can impart all of the purposes of education. I will use my three main philosophies to help guide me onto the right path of educating: that every child is a different learner, a teacher might have another role to be other than an instructor, and children need a solid home life with parental involvement in their education. I believe that every child is a different learner. What may work for one, may not work for another. A teacher has to be prepared to make a separate lesson for each child, if need be. Not only am I prepared to create a separate lesson for each child, but also in a further pursuit to accomplish the objective of educating, I am willing to teach through various methods so that I can reach all learners. I plan to educate through active learning, connecting the lessons to the real-world as much as possible. I plan to promote critical, creative and reflective thinking. This will all be accomplished through creative lesson plans that exhibit coherence and continuity, which will enable learning for all. Along with educating the children mentally, I am prepared to educate the children morally. To help do this, I will try to realize what the children are lacking in their lives, and then help to provide it. If they do not have someone at home to teach him or her manners, then I must do so. If they need to learn values, then I can educate them on what is valuable. If they need a friend, or someone to show that they are loved, then I can open up my heart. A teacher is in a position to provide the children with the tools to succeed in the world, and this is a powerful and important thing to realize, and not just realize, but to accomplish. Unfortunately, there is something that the teacher cannot control- the child’s home life. A child needs a stable, secure and involved home life to help him flourish in the world. A teacher cannot fix the problems, but she can help and not hinder. Besides being what the child is lacking at home, I can try to make it easier by involving the parents. There are various methods for involving parents, and numerous reasons why parents don’t want to be involved. All must be developed. Parents are an important process in a child’s education, and the teacher, as well as the parents, must recognize this. For these goals to be a success, I must instill them in an excellent classroom management and setting scheme. I must provide a learning environment that the children will be motivated to learn in. It must have age appropriate materials that will enhance the child’s learning. There must be materials that will increase the child’s intellectual and physical development. There must be opportunities for the child to grow socially, emotionally, be involved in large groups, small groups, and for individual attention. This setting must be managed carefully. The teacher should have a structured curriculum that will help to provide for a stable environment. It should have set behavior goals that should be understood by all. Management must be successful for everything that is involved with the classroom to run more smoothly. There are many aspects involved with educating a child. There are many responsibilities to be taken upon. This field is not the right field for everyone. The role of education is the foundation, and the children are the blueprints of the buildings to be built on the foundation. In order for the buildings to be built straight, and stable, glorious for all to see, a vision of pride, there must be an architect. This architect must weigh the pros and cons of building these buildings, and take the right course, the only course, in building them. I am such an architect.
